What To Expect At Your Tampa In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

As you begin the window treatment buying process, some companies, like Sunburst, send out a rep for an in-home consultation. By taking products to your home, we can demonstate how different window treatments would work in your room. This consultation makes it easier to envision your options and makes you feel satisfied with the end result.

But what actually goes on during an in-home consultation? And how will bringing samples to your home enable you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Different companies may have different procedures for their in-home consultation, but here is what you will get during your Sunburst appointment.

Start by scheduling an appointment by calling your local representative. If you already have a shutter or window treatment in mind, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make sure to show you some options for your preferred choice. We will also bring alternatives, so you can feel confident that your room matches your vision.

During the actual appointment, we’ll sit down and figure out what you want in a window treatment. We’ll look at your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency ideas, and we’ll ask about hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your consultant will also want to know how the room is used and what style you are looking to attain. And it’s normal if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, as we’ll explain all your options.

You may have to see many different window treatments and contrast each style against each other. Most clients need to look at a few different treatments, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or choosing the best stain to match the room. We’ll also demonstrate all the options available for the shutter, shade, or blind, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

After you decide on a treatment, we’ll take precise measurements of your windows. We generally measure the windows in each room—even if you only need to fit treatments for a portion of the house. We get multiple measurements because many of our clients ask to get additional products without another consultation. Before we leave, we will guide you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Signs Of A Subpar In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are sure that Sunburst will perform an easy and enjoyable in-home consultation, there are some red flags you should never experience from any window treatment rep. After all, the quality of your sales representative mirrors the quality of the window treatments.

Above all else, your salesperson should treat your home with respect. The rep should come to your house when promised, clean and presentable, and offer to prevent floor scuffs with shoe booties. Your representative should always have product and company brochures and pricing details.

When it comes to price, you should expect a complete written quote. Don’t accept a large pricing range, scrawled on a blank page or the back of a business card. And always reject pricing estimates before they take any window measurements. You should always understand how much product and installation should cost. If a quote ever seems sketchy or unreasonable, simply ask for references and search for the store’s online reviews.
